Third Final Fantasy XI Expansion in the Works
Treasures of Aht Urhgan may introduce two new jobs
September 17, 2005
Square Enix has announced a new expansion pack for Final Fantasy XI, Treasures of Aht Urhgan. The new expansion pack will feature new game areas, quests/missions and at least one new job.
The announcement, made on the PlayOnline Web site and at the Tokyo Game Show, included word of one or possibly two new jobs. The most 'obvious' is the Blue Mage job, which like blue magic in most Final Fantasy games would likely allow the player to learn new abilities from enemies. The second set of abilities are along the geomancer or elementalist line, although Square Enix hasn't made it clear whether or not this will ultimately be a new job, or a skillset of the Blue Mage.
Beyond that, few details have been released about the expansion pack. Treasures of Aht Urhgan will be the third expansion after The Rise of Zilart and Chains of Promathia. Current retail copies of Final Fantasy XI include the first two expansions.
Treasures of Aht Urhgan is expected to be released simultaneously for the current PlayStation 2 and PC versions of the game. The Xbox 360 version, which will debut shortly after that system's release this year, will include the first two expansions, while Treasures is likely to be a seperate add-on.
More details will follow.
