New World of Warcraft expansion on the way

The Burning Crusade extends the story and capability of WoW

October 31, 2005

Blizzard Entertainment has recently announced an expansion pack for its popular MMORPG, World of Warcraft. The new expansion, called The Burning Crusade will add new features to the game, and continue the World of Warcraft storyline.

Features of the new expansion include new player races, quests, areas and battlegrounds. Flying mounts will also be added — a new mode of transportation that will make travel through hazardous Outland areas more bearable. A new profession, jewlcrafting, will also be added, and the players' level cap will be raised to 70.

"We're extremely proud of what we created with World of Warcraft, and we look forward to expanding the boundaries of the game with The Burning Crusade," said Mike Morhaime, president and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment®. "With all of the new content we have planned, the expansion set will offer something for every World of Warcraft player to explore and enjoy."

No release date has been announced for The Burning Crusade. Blizzard says that the expansion will not have any additional system requirements (other than hard drive space).

It's been nearly a year since Blizzard first released World of Warcraft (in November 2004). The game boasts a 4.5 million player subscription base.
