Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion won't make it for Xbox 360 launch

Much-anticipated RPG slips into 2006

November 1, 2005

Game publisher Take-Two Interactive today announced that Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has been delayed until 2006 for both the PC and Xbox 360 versions.

The delay comes as a disappointment to many gamers, who were expecting Oblivion to be ready in time for Microsoft's Xbox 360 launch this month.

Take-Two said that the game won't be released until its fiscal Q2, which means some time between February and April of 2006. The company's President and CEO, Paul Eibeler, says that the delay is to ensure quality of the product. According to Eibeler, the game's developer, Bethesda Softworks, requires "additional development time to ensure the title meets gamers' high expectations for this popular franchise".

Earlier reports had "confirmed" that the game would be ready for the Xbox 360 launch. Many online retailers are already selling the game in pre-order Xbox 360 bundles.
