Final Fantasy XIII-2

Square Enix releases Final Fantasy XII in North America

Developer calls FF12 the 'most accessible RPG' yet

October 31, 2006

Square Enix has announced the release of Final Fantasy XII in North America for the Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2). FF12 is the first major single-player Final Fantasy title to be released to North America in nearly 5 years, although some spin-off titles have made appearances in that time.

Daishiro Okada, president and COO of Square Enix commented that "Final Fantasy XI is the most accessible RPG yet, allowing casual and hardcore gamers to truly customize the complexity of the game to their playing style." The game breaks away from the traditional turn-based style of previous Final Fantasy titles by using a real-time action model for the game. The fighting style in Final Fantasy XI is very reminiscent of the online title Final Fantasy XI.

Final Fantasy XI employs a new Gambit AI system that allows you to customize your character in a way that affects the character's actions.

The story of the game takes place in a world in political struggle, and unlike many of the game's recent predecessors, revolves mostly around the political aspects of the enviornment, rather than on a love story between central characters.

The game was released in March to the Japanese market and has since sold 2.4 million copies. Final Fantasy games have collectively sold over 68 million units worldwide.

Final Fantasy XI hits North American stores today in both a standard and Collector's Edition format. The Collector's Edition includes special packaging, DVD content on the game disc and other features.
