Oblivion won't make it to PS3 Launch
Elder Scrolls IV, along with Sonic, Vegas and more, pushed back from launch date
November 14, 2006
It was previously reported that The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion would be a launch title for the Sony PS3. Bethesda Softworks, the game's publisher, now says that Oblivion, which is already available on the PC and Xbox 360, will be available for the PS3 in early 2007.
Sonic the Hedgehog, another high-profile launch title, was also delayed until December. F.E.A.R., Rainbow Six: Vegas, Blazing Angels and Full Auto 2 have also been delayed until December or later. EA also cancelled NBA Live 07 for the PS3 and won't bring that series to PS3 until 2008.
The loss of Oblivion and Sonic could lead to some disappointments on Friday, when the Sony PS3 launches in North America. The most significant third-party title is now Call of Duty 3 (already available on the Xbox 360). Ridge Racer 7, Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Untold Legends are among the other launch titles.
Oblivion is one of the best-selling Xbox 360 games. The game takes the next step from the previous installment, Morrowind, brining to life a truly next-generation environment that spans as far as the eye can see. With realistic character interactions and nearly complete fee reign over the enviornment, Oblivion is one of the largest single-player RPGs to date.
