PSP to get original Final Fantasy Tactics, FFT: A2 announced

An update of the original game on the way for Sony's PlayStation Portable

December 14, 2006

Square Enix is all about mobility these days, it seems. After announcing that Dragon Quest IX will be on the Nintendo DS, and with Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings also coming to the DS, Square Enix has revealled another portable title.

Final Fantasy Tactics is coming to the PSP as an updated port. The update will improve the graphics a bit, shift the display into 16:9 and add new content, including a new job class to the game.

Square Enix also announced a new game: Final Fantasy Tactics A2, which we can only assume is a sequel to Final Fantasy Tactics Advance for the Game Boy Advance. The target platform, however, is not a certainty.

The games come as part of an overall project that Square Enix is calling "Ivalice Alliance". The project includes both Tactics titles, as well as FFXII: Revenant Wints (both FF Tactics and FF12 take place in the world of Ivalice.

Ivalice Alliance is Square Enix's latest in a trend of multi-game, multi-media projects. The upcoming Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII (PS3) and Final Fantasy Agito XIII are all part of the Fabula Nova Crystallis project, while Dirge of Cerberus (PS2), Crisis Core (PSP) and the CG film Advent Children are all part of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII project.

No release date has been released for either game, but more information is expected at the Jump Fiesta event which begins this Saturday in Tokyo, Japan.
