Sony PSP will get Final Fantasy Remakes
How many times can Square Enix release these games?
January 17, 2007
Some classic Final Fantasy titles are being re-made for the Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP) system to celebrate the twenty-year anniversary of the series. Final Fantasy I and II will be released in new Anniversary Edition versions.
Square Enix has released several updated versions of its early Final Fantasy games in the past, including versions on the Sony PlayStation and the Nintendo Game Boy Advance. The new PSP version will again improve the graphics quality in the games without transitioning them to 3D gameplay, as was done with Final Fantasy III on the Nintendo DS.
The extras that were added to each of these games in the Game Boy Advance versions will return on the PSP, and CG intros from the PS versions will also appear here.
2007 marks the 20th anniversary of Final Fantasy in Japan, and indeed the games will be released this year. The U.S. release has not been confirmed, but the twenty-year anniversary of the games in the U.S. doesn't occur for three more years: Final Fantasy was released for the North American NES in 1990.
