Another Oblivion expansion on the way
Shivering Isles will hit shelves this Spring
January 30, 2007
Bethesda Softworks has announced the second expansion for its award-winning single-player RPG The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Shivering Isles will be released for both the Windows PC platform and the Microsoft Xbox 360.
The Shivering Isles expansion includes over 30 hours of new gameplay, according to the Bethesda release. The new Shivering Isles areas opened up in this expansion are the realm of Sheogorath, the Daedric Prince of Madness.
"Shivering Isles is unlike anything you've seen or played in Oblivion. We can't wait for folks to play it."
Sheogorath is described as having a largely split personality, and this characteristic has a major impact on the new areas players explore. One side of his personality is manic and creative, while the other is demented and psychotic. In Shivering Isles, Sheogorath employs you to become the hero of his land, protecting the isles and their people from danger, and from Sheogorath himself.
"The enthusiastic response we've received to our downloadable content has been overwhelming, and we're excited to bring Oblivion fans a full expansion," said Bethesda president Vlatko Andonov, "The world we've created for Shivering Isles is unlike anything you've seen or played in Oblivion and we can't wait for folks to play it."
The expansion adds "more than a dozen" new enemies, as well as new items, spells and alchemy ingredients to the already enormous self-guided world of Oblivion.
Oblivion was originally released in March 2006 for the PC and Xbox 360 platforms, and will be released this February for the PlayStation 3. The previous expansion, Knights of the Nine was released in November for both platforms. Bethesda has also expressed that they intend to make the Shivering Isles expansion available for the PS3 later in the year.
The Xbox 360 version of the expansion will be available for download through the Xbox Live Marketplace, where the previous expansion is currently available.
