New RPG franchise uses Unreal Enginge 3

May 10, 2007

Square Enix has revealled a new RPG called The Last Remnant. The game uses the Unreal Engine 3, which Square Enix recently purchased rights to use. Square Enix says the game will be targeted at the global market, particularly North America. It will be directed by Hiroshi Takai, the man behind The Bouncer and Legend of Mana.

The Last Remnant takes place in a fantasy world that relies on "Remnants" for power. Further story elements have yet to be revealled, although there are four known races that will appear in the game: Mitra (humanlike), Qsiti (lizardlike), Sovanni (catlike, but with four arms) and Yama (water-dwelling), although only one character will be playable. The game will use a turn-based battle system.

Square Enix has yet to confirm a release date for The Last Remnant. While the game is expected to be released on both the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, Square Enix has yet to confirm its platform as well.
