Fourth Final Fantasy XI expansion announced
Wings of the Goddess takes Vana'diel back to its roots
May 12, 2007
Final Fantasy XI will be expanded yet again, according to a recent announcement by Square Enix. Wings of the Goddess is coming to FFXI this winter.

Little has been released other than the name and a short teaser video on the Web site for the expansion. From the trailer, though, it would seem that the new expansion focuses more on new storyline elements than new stuff. While the most recent expansion, Treasures of Aht Urhgan, brought new gameplay styles, enormous new areas and never-before-seen enemies to the game, it seems that most of Wings of the Goddess takes place in a more familiar setting.
Many of the images shown in the teaser seem to be in the original zones of the game, with changes mostly to the buildings shown. This, and the text in the teaser, may suggest an ability to experience the history of the game's world — although at this point only speculation can be offered.
The trailer ends with the promise of "Winter 2007". Wings of the Goddess will follow previous expansions Rise of the Zilart, Chains of Promathia and Treasures of Aht Urhgan.
