World of Warcraft hits 9 million subscribers

Blizzard's MMO could be a country

Blizzard Entertainment has announced that World of Warcraft, it massively-multiplayer online role-playing game has reached 9 million subscribers.

Naturally, Blizzard's executives are excited. President and co-founder Mike Morhaime comments, ""We're thrilled that gamers around the world have continued to embrace World of Warcraft so enthusiastically."

The count includes all active paid subscribers, and ignores those on promotional trials or accounts that have expired or been cancelled.

Videogamesblogger.com pointed out in their report, that if World of Warcraft were a country, it would now rank in the top 100 in population, at #90.
