According to recent reports and confirmed by Square Enix in their MMO's newsletter, the new expansion to Final Fantasy XI will add new jobs to the game.

Wings of the Goddess, the fourth expansion for FFXI will expand the already impressive collection of jobs, which now totals eighteen. Speculation is already rampant, but Square Enix has not revealled what the new jobs will be.

The previous expansion, Treasures of Aht Urhgan featured three new jobs: Blue Mage, Corsair and Puppetmaster. Of those, the Blue Mage and Corsair jobs have proven to be useful, but none have become hugely popular or essential to the gameplay.

Because of this, concerns over the playability of any new jobs have risen with some players expecting only minor variations of existing jobs.

The recently announced Wings of the Goddess has no set release date. The storyline of the expansion seems to rely heavily on the past of Final Fantasy XI's fictional world of Vana'diel. Images of current areas in apparently restored or ancient times have many players speculating that time travel will be a major part of the new expansion, although the game's design team has not commented officially.
