Mass Effect trilogy will stay in current generation

Bioware hopes to fit all three games within the Xbox 360's lifetime

Bioware's president, Dr. Greg Zeschuk, has said that if all goes well, the entire Mass Effect trilogy will be done within the current generation of consoles.

"Certainly out intent is to have all three iterations or installments of Mass Effect to be on Xbox 360," says Zeschuk. "That's the goal...I hope, I hope, I hope that this cycle is longer than the last one."

This would mean that customers would not have to purchase new consoles to enjoy the next two installments of the highly-anticipated RPG title. Mass Effect, which will be released on November 20 in North America, was recently announced to be the first in a trilogy.

Bioware is perhaps best known for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, an action-RPG that received huge acclaim from fans and critics alike.

Mass Effect will continue in the sci-fi RPG genre offering similar gameplay with next-generation graphics and and enormous explorable galaxy.

Because of the size and complexity of RPGs, however, the fact that Bioware hopes to complete all three games within a few short years may be a negative. On tight deadlines, the sequels may be rushed and may lack the quality of the first Mass Effect.

Regardless, whether or not Bioware is able to meet this goal is the subject of debate.
