BioWare working on Knights of the Old Republic MMORPG

'Sources' claim that Star Wars hit game will gone online in 2008

October 23, 2007

A rumor has emerged about popular RPG-maker BioWare. According to Primotech, a source close to the company has revealed that the company is working on a new massively-multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) based on one of its most popular titles: Knights of the Old Republic.

The original Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, released in 2003, was hailed as an excellent action-RPG, as well as one of the best Star Wars adaptations to make its way into the video game market.

A sequel to the original Knights of the Old Republic, The Sith Lords, was released, although it was developed by Obsidian Entertainment rather than BioWare. Another MMORPG in the Star Wars universe, Star Wars: Galaxies is still in operation, although its subscriber numbers continually decline.

BioWare, which was recently acquired by EA, is currently preparing to launch its original sci-fi RPG franchise, Mass Effect. This new title, which incorporates much of the famed exploration and character interaction features of the Knights series, will be released on November 22.

Claims of a Knights of the Old Republic MMO are not entirely new. Electronic Gaming Monthly revealed in May that BioWare had been hiring talent to work on an online RPG based on the series.

Primotech's source claims the game is targeted for a 2008 release.
