Knights of the Old Republic III

LucasArts and BioWare join forces once more

Alliance fuels Knights of the Old Republic MMO rumors

October 31, 2007

After last week's rumors of a Knights of the Old Republic MMO, an announcement has been made that could eventually lead to confirmation. LucasArts and BioWare announced today that the two are working together again, on what they refer to as a "ground-breaking interactive entertainment product".

Of course, this does not explicitly confirm an MMORPG, but it almost certainly means that BioWare is again working on a game set in the Star Wars universe. But there is reason to believe the MMO rumor from another announcement.

BioWare was recently acquired by EA, who paid $860 million for the game. At the time of the launch, EA helped justify the purchase and build hype for their new acquisition by mentioning an MMORPG that was already in the works and would launch in 2009. Many have since speculated that this might be a Mass Effect title, since sequels for this upcoming RPG are already in the works. But the LucasArts announcement may again point to the Knights of the Old Republic series of Star Wars games.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is hailed by fans as one of the best Star Wars franchise games ever created.

"Through our previous collaborations, we know that BioWare has an impressive ability to blend gripping stories with technological advancements," comments Jim Ward, president of LucasArts. "We believe that our upcoming product will deliver an experience that will span the traditional boundaries of video game entertainment."

The companies have launched a website to showcase their work together: www.lucasartsbioware.com.
