'Scholar' job announced for Final Fantasy XI
Second job from new Wings of the Goddess expansion revealed
November 3, 2007
Square Enix has revealled the next job that will be added to its massively-multiplayer online RPG (MMORPG) Final Fantasy XI. The new job is called Scholar.
The Scholar job class originally appeared in Final Fantasy III. Reports of the job's details say that the scholar is capable of both black and white magic, but has several spells that will be unique to the job. Rather than being simply a white and black mage combined, the Scholar will have to choose spells from the two schools of magic to use. Details of how the scholar will "equip" spells, or alternate between schools of magic are unknown, but may be similar to the way a Blue Mage chooses spells now.
The job will reportedly be useful as a sub-job for any of the current mage jobs: Summoner, White Mage, Black Mage, Red Mage and Blue Mage.

The Scholar job is well-versed in various schools of magic.
The first job announced for the expansion is Dancer, which was unveiled at the Tokyo Game Show in September. Square Enix had previously said there would be more than one new job with the expansion, which has led to ongoing speculation about what another job might be. Today, players got their answer.
The addition of the Scholar job brings the total number of jobs in Final Fantasy XI to twenty. Wings of the Goddess, which is the fourth expansion to FFXI, will be released on November 20.
More details will be revealled as they become known.
