No Final Fantasy XIII until 2010

January 16th, 2009 by Colin Temple

Final Fantasy XIII

The new website and screenshots for Final Fantasy XIII last week may have gotten our hopes up, but it looks like it was a little premature.  Yoichi Wada, president of Square Enix, has said that the game is unlikely to see light outside of Japan this year.

April 2010 is the earliest we could see Final Fantasy XIII at this point, says Wada.

Final Fantasy XIII will be a PlayStation 3 exclusive game in Japan, and may still see a 2009 release there.  In North America and European markets, however, the game’s delay may be related to the Xbox 360 release.  Initially planned to be globally PS3-exclusive, Square Enix said that it would release the game for the Microsoft platform as well in the West, and would begin developing the Xbox 360 port after the PS3 version was complete.  Both versions, however, are to be released  simultaneously.

We’ll have more news as it comes.  Maybe we’ll still see a demo this year… or something.
