Blue Dragon

An evil king is tormenting the Grand Kingdom, and it's up to five friends to put an end it.

Blue Dragon was the first RPG to emerge from Mistwalker, the studio founded by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi after his departure from Square Enix. The game was based on designs that Sakaguchi created, and its writing and development were overseen by him.

The game consists of strong traditional RPG elements, with Sakaguchi retruning to the models of earlier Final Fantasy games in the face of other developers, including Square Enix, who seem determined to break away from them. This received a mixed reaction, with some considering the game to be outdated, but others enjoying the return to the aspects that originally defined the RPG genre. Overall, the game was well-received by critics and RPG fans. Notably, it helped Microsoft with the adoption of the Xbox 360 in Japan.
