King Trode

Trode is the King of the once powerful Trodain. His kingdom, however, has fallen under a curse by Dhoulmagus, who has stolen the kingdom's magical sceptre and is wreaking havoc upon the world. King Trode has undergone a transformation into a hideous little trollish creature as a result of the curse, and has set out with the Hero to recover his kingdom.

Trode doesn't do a whole lot in the effort to restore his kingdom. He mostly just delivers orders and waits outside for the Hero and the party to take care of the bad guys. He does build the Alchemy Pot, though, which is an invaluable tool, especially later in the game.
