Fallout 3

Underneath the ruins of Washington, D.C., a young man living in Vault 101 finds that his father has mysteriously departed for the surface. Compelled to find his missing father, he must now leave the safety of the vault and explore the dangerous wastelands above.

Fallout 3 is the third installment in the main Fallout series of action-RPGs.

Fallout 3 was developed by Bethesda Softworks, the company behind The Elder Scrolls. Originally, Interplay began work on the game in its Black Isle Studios, but the project was later cancelled when Interplay went bankrupt. The project was sold to Bethesda, who threw out the work Interplay had already done in order to re-design Fallout 3 from scratch. Although development began in 2004, Bethesda did not focus on the game until it released Oblivion in 2006.

The Gamebryo enging used in Oblivion is also behind Fallout 3.

Also like Oblivion, Fallout 3 cast a known actor in a minor role. As Patrick Stewart lent a few lines of his voice to the Emperor in Oblivion, Liam Neesson plays the role of the player's father.

Fallout 3 was released in late October 2008 on Windows, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 platforms. The game was very well received by fans of the Fallout series and by gamers in general. The game won IGN's 2008 Game of the Year.

To date, four downloadable content (DLC) releases have been made available to expand Fallout 3. Operation: Anchorage puts players in a simulation of pre-war Alaska, while The Pitt explores the post-apocalyptic ruins of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Broken Steel raises the level cap of the game and adds storyline that takes place after the main Fallout 3 story is complete. Point Lookout is the most open-ended of the DLC to date, offering a new rural area to explore.
