Final Fantasy I

Four young adventurers find themselves entrusted with ancient orbs. They must venture out together to destroy the evils that are limiting the orbs' power, and save the world from destruction.

In 1987, Square was facing financial turmoil and was about to declare bankrupcy after only four years of business. Hironobu Sakaguchi, who co-founded the company, decided to release one last game — a fantasy RPG which was, for that reason, titled Final Fantasy.

The fantasy, however, was far from final. Sakaguchi's creation was a hit in Japan, and was also localized for North America, where it performed very well for its genre. The series spawned dozens of games and has lasted on for over two decades.
