Final Fantasy X

In the middle of a game, star blitzball player Tidus finds himself in a strange situation. His home city of Zanarkand is under attack by a strange creature, and soon after, Tidus wakes up in a whole new world. The people there call their home Spira, and inform Tidus that he must be crazy, because his Zanarkand had been ruins for a millenium—that it had been destroyed by thier enemy: a creature known as Sin.

Final Fantasy X brings a whole new definition to the Final Fantasy series. Moving the series to the Sony PlayStation 2, FFX offers beautiful graphics and new forms of gameplay.

Final Fantasy X was the first title in the series to feature voice acting, with most cutscenes and dialogue spoken by the actors. The game also did away with the pre-rendered backgrounds of the PlayStation era, using fully 3D graphics that were generated by the PS2's more powerful processor.

The gameplay of Final Fantasy X was much more linear, though, than many previous installments in the series. For example, FFX lacked a world map that could be explored freely by the player. Instead, the entire area of Final Fantasy X consisted of smaller zones and corridors. This would continue in the next single-player Final Fantasy title, Final Fantasy XII, although the explorable area is much larger, and movement is much less restricted.
