Final Fantasy XI

An age of war ends for the people of Vana'diel. The beastmen armies have finally been pushed back and the nations of Bastok, San d'Oria and Windurst are being rebuilt into prosperity. But the beastmen forces still linger nearby, and with newly-discovered relics from ancient civilizations and a mysterious empire watching from the east, the adventurers of this world will face many challenges ahead…

With Square Enix venturing outside the standard Final Fantasy lineup with a major motion picture, its first storyline sequel (Final Fantasy X-2) and an action-RPG (Crystal Chronicles), the next step in its evolution was Final Fantasy XI, an online RPG.

Despite a slow pickup of online console gaming and the numerous problems with the initial Japanese release of this game, Final Fantasy XI has been a success, peaking at over 1.5 Million registered players. The game has since spawned four expansion packs: Rise of the Zilart, Chains of Promathia, Treasures of Aht Urhgan and Wings of the Goddess.
