Chocobos

To ride a chocobo, you first need a license (see below). You can then acquire a chocobo at the Chocobo Stable for some quick and safe transportation. Renting a chocobo costs money—the price is based on demand. Also the time you can remain on your chocobo is limited, so if you're using a chocobo to get somewhere, plan your route ahead of time and travel directly.

Chocobos can help you by searching the ground for items. Feeding Gyshal Greens to your chocobo allows you to dig to find hidden items.

Getting a Chocobo License

At level 20, you can begin the quest to acquire a Chocobo License. Go to the Chocobo stables near the Batallia Downs exit in Upper Jeuno. There, you must speak to Brutus, the Chocobo Master. He'll ask you if you've ever left a Chocobo alone in the past. If you answer "no", he'll be pleased with your humane treatment of animals and offer you a chance to obtain the Chocobo License. He directs your attention to a poor Chocobo nearby, who you'll need to coax.

In order to complete the quest, you'll need six days of Vana'diel time and four bunches of Gausebit Wildgrass (which can be purchased at the Auction House). You'll need to attempt to feed the Chocobo once a day for six days in order to gain its trust. Do this using the "Trade" command, giving it one bunch of the wildgrass.

Once the six days are up, Brutus will be impressed by your dedication and give you a license. You're now able to rent a Chocobo from any stable in Vana'diel. The fee for rental varies based on demand, and the time you have to ride the Chocobo isn't infinite, so plan your voyages in advance.

Don't worry if you don't have time to complete the quest in one shot. You need to feed the Chocobo on six different days, but the need not be consecutive. If you leave, log off or miss a day, you won't lose your progress.
