Corsair Phantom Roll Ability

A Corsair uses Phantom Roll

The Phantom Roll job ability of the Corsair in FFXI is learned at level 5. This ability gives a beneficial effect to a party member.

Phantom Rolls require learning "Dice", special abilities that a Corsair must learn. Dice are much like Scrolls that are used to learn spells. (Dice can be found under Scrolls > Dice in the Auction House.)

A Corsair uses Phantom Roll

When using Phantom Roll, the Corsair can choose which Dice to use for the ability. A random number is generated between 1–6 (or I to VI, as they're displayed in Roman numerals), and the number of that roll is used to determine how potent the Dice effect will be.

A Corsair's party member may have up to two active Phantom Rolls active at any given time. (A player with Corsair as a subjob may only provide one). Additionally, a Corsair/Bard or Bard/Corsair only has 2 slots to use for Dice and songs — so they can only cast two songs, two phantom rolls or one of each.

The effect of a Phantom Roll will be enhanced depending on what types of party members are present. (For example, the Warlock's Roll effect is enhanced when a White Mage is in the party.) This effect only occurs when someone with Corsair set as a main job performs the Roll.

Double-Up

The Double-Up job ability may be used within forty-five seconds of using Phantom Roll. This period of time is known as the "Double-Up chance" and is indicated by a status icon (Dice with + indicator). Double-Up may be casted multiple times during the Double-Up Chance period.

Double-Up will again cast the I—VI dice and add that number to the total effect of the Dice. However, there is a maximum value for the roll. If the total roll exceeds XI (11), the roll will Bust, and the status effects will be taken off of the party. In addition, after a Bust, one of the possible Phantom Roll slots will be filled for the duration of that roll, thus decreasing the number of potential rolls.

Phantom Roll Macros

To macro Phantom Roll, you need to type the name of the Roll itself as if it were a stand-alone Job Ability, rather than using Phantom Roll and then selecting a roll.

/p Using ((Corsair's Roll)): ((I want experience points.))
/wait 1
/ja "Corsair's Roll" <me>

The Double-Up macro works as expected:

/p That roll was ((Too Weak)) - Time to ((Double-Up))
/wait 1
/ja "Double-Up" <me>
