Quests in Selbina
In Final Fantasy XI quests are done in order to obtain Fame. When you have higher rank of fame, prices in shops will be reduced, new quests will be activated, and some of these quests will help you acquire very expensive items that you wouldn't be able to acquire otherwise.
Quests done in Selbina will count for Fame in San d'Oria.

Fame: San d'Oria Fame quest
NPC: Melyon (I-9)
Reward: 120gil - 600gil
Requirments: None
Item(s) Needed: 1 Boyahda Moss, 5 La Theine Cabbage, or 3 Ears of Millioncorn
Repeatable: Yes
Melyon needs food for his sheep. He asks you bring some food; Boyahda Moss (dropped from gobbue-type monsters), La Theine Cabbage (dropped from Steppe Hares in La Theine Plateau), or Ears of Millioncorn (harvested or bought from Auction House).
Elder Memories
NPC: Isacio (G-10)
Reward: Ability to set a support job
Requirments: Must be at least level 18
Item(s) Needed: 1 Damslefly Worm, 1 Magicked Skull, and 1 Crab Apron
Repeatable: No
You have to bring Iascio 3 items for him to teach you about support jobs. When you are partying in the dunes, you will find all these items dropped by monsters. The worm is dropped by the Damselflys, the apron is dropped by crabs and the skull is dropped by Ghouls. You can only start and complete this quest if you are level 18 or higher.

Repeatable: Yes
Vuntar will pay you for rare Rolanberries. The more difficult the berry, the higher the reward. First off, bring a normal rolanberry and go to the Crawler's Nest. Place the berry in one of the first crawler nests (Map 1, nests J-9 or F-8). A Worker Crawler will appear, you must defeat it to get a Rolanberry 881. Take this berry and place it in another set of nests (Map 2, nests G-7 and H-7). A Drone Crawler will then appear, you must defeat it to get a Rolanberry 874. Then bring this berry to another area (Map 3, nest D-7). A Matron Crawler will appear, defeat it for a Rolanberry 864. Bring this berry to Vuntar for the highest reward.

Item(s) Needed: 5 pieces of Onion gear
Repeatable: No
Romeo is on top of the Fisherman's Guild. He wants you to donate 5 pieces of Onion gear. You can bring him any of the following; Onion Daggers, Onion Knives, Onion Swords, Onion Rods, and Onion Staves. These are the weapons all characters start out with, so hit the Auction House for this quest.
Rescue
NPC: Thunder Hawk (G-9)
Reward: 3000gil, Map of Ranguemont Pass
Requirments: None
Item(s) Needed: Quadav Charm, Merchant's Goods
Repeatable: No
Thunder Hawk needs you to find two merchants (Evrard and Serafin) who have been captured by Quadav. They are being held in a jail in Beadeau (I-8). The only way to open the door to the jail cell is with a Quadav charm, which can be taken from De'Vyu Headhunter in the same area. When you free the merchants, they give you some things to bring back to Thunder Hawk. Do this to complete the quest and obtain your reward.
