Amanomurakumo

The Relic Great Katana

This is the quest to get the Amanomurakumo, what is by far the most powerful Great Katana in Final Fantasy XI. This Rare/Exclusive level 75 GK features 88 Damage, Accuracy +20 and the ability to use the weapon skill Tachi: Kaiten anywhere. It also occasionaly weakens your enemy's attacks.

Now that you want it, let's go through the long, painful process of acquiring it.

In Zvahl Castle Bailey (J-8), you'll find Switchstix. Switchstix can upgrade weapons for you, and will upgrade an Ito GK if you bring him the right items. The Ito is a Great Katana acquired from Dynamis - Bastok or Dynamis - Beaucedine.

To upgrade the Ito, you'll need it, as well as:

  • 1 Relic Steel
  • 1 Tama-hagane
  • 1 Siren's Macrame
  • 3 Montiont Silverpieces (as a fee)

Give these to Switchstix and he'll upgrade the sword to a Hayatemaru. Not quite what we're looking for. Wait 1 day and you can upgrade this one. You'll need:

  • The Hayatemaru
  • 1 Tachi
  • 1 Mikazuki
  • 1 Kazaridachi
  • 15 Lungo-Nango Jadeshells (as a fee)

This upgrade takes about 1 week. That's an Earth week, unfortunately. Now, you have an Oboromaru. Let's keep going with another upgrade:

  • The Oboromaru
  • 1 Attestation of Decisiveness

The Attestation of Decisivencess drops in Dynamis - Beaucedine. This upgrade gives you a Tosukanotsuruji. Not a bad sword, it gives you Tachi: Kaiten, but only in Dynamis. One more upgrade to go. You'll need:

  • The Tosukanotsuruji
  • 1 Divine Fragment

Finally, you'll get an Amanomurakumo, the best Great Katana there ever was. Tachi: Kaiten is yours, whenever and wherever you please.
