Final Fantasy Versus XIII

Final Fantasy Versus XIII is a PlayStation 3 exclusive title that was first revealed at a Square Enix press conference before E3 in May 2006. The game is currently in development and is headed for release in 2012.

Square Enix's press release says of the game: "Harmony is realized in this alternate tale of Final Fantasy XIII". The game is not a sequel of Final Fantasy XII, but instead a completely independant storyline that takes place in the same universe. The characters will be different than in Final Fantasy XIII (although presumably there will be some sort of connection or overlap).

Final Fantasy Versus XIII is being developed as part of the overall FF13 project, which is called Fabula Nova Crystallis, which is latin for "New Tale of the Crystal". The project includes Final Fantasy Versus XIII, as well as Final Fantasy XIII and its sequel, Final Fantasy XIII-2. These games will all take place in the same FF13 universe.

Final Fantasy Agito XIII was originally part of this project as well, but the game has since been re-named Final Fantasy Type-0 and is no longer associated with Final Fantasy XIII.
