Final Fantasy XIII

In the floating world of Cocoon, the mysterious threat of the Pulse world below has put fear in the hearts of the population. Meanwhile, mysterious beings known as the fal’Cie at the heart of both Cocoon and Pulse are recruiting individuals, branding them as l’Cie and forcing them to fulfill unknown quests or face horrible consequences. Now, a former Cocoon soldier named Lightning must turn on her government in order to save her l’Cie sister, and uncover the truth of the fal’Cie and the true motives of the worlds at war…

Final Fantasy XIII (FF13) is the thirteenth flagship RPG in Square Enix's Final Fantasy series. The game was released in December 2009 in Japan, and March 2010 worldwide. In Japan, FF13 is PS3-exclusive, while elsewhere the game is available on both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms.

Square Enix describes the game as "a tale of souls from a futuristic civilization illuminated by the Light of the Crystal". The game centers around Lightning, a young woman who formerly served with the military and has now been given a task by the fal'Cie, the mysterious beings that seem to be pulling the strings behind the opposing nations of the world..

Final Fantasy XIII is a part of the overall FF13 project, which is called Fabula Nova Crystallis, Latin for "New Tale of the Crystal". The project includes Final Fantasy XIII, as well as Final Fantasy Versus XIII (PS3) and Final Fantasy Agito XIII (PSP). These games all take place in the same universe and share a similar mythology, but will not be direclty connected in terms of storyline.
