Guildleves

Guildleves are painted crystal cards embedded in precious metals, depicting scenes or portraits. Posessing guildleves enables players to attempt tasks, alone or with other adventurers. Certain guildleves also serve as access passes, allowing adventurers into certain areas or granting them access to modes of transportation.

Essentially, Guildleves are a type of quest that players can take on to obtain as yet unknown rewards.

Final Fantasy XIV producer Hiromichi Tanaka says that Guildleves are central to FF14, and an important part of player advancement. Not unlike that Assaults of Final Fantasy XI, Guildleves can be completed multiple times in order to gain greater benefit from them.

Players will be able to hold a limited number of Guildleves at a time, creating the need to team up with other players to access content for the leves not currently held. The difficulty and playtime for Guildleves will vary considerably — some leves can be completed in half an hour, while others will take days and require more people.

The purpose of the Guildleve system is to provide a variety of casual and involved gameplay styles, accomodating a wide range of players and allowing people to essentially customize the game.
