FFXIV Races
There are 5 races of adventurers in Eorzea, the five races that players will be able to choose from. The available races closely resemble those of FFXIV's predecessor, Final Fantasy XI.
The Hyur
The Hyur are the most humanlike race in Eorzea, and are the most populated. They are known for their innovation in technology and development of culture.
The Hyur are generally divided into two distinct groups: The Highlanders and Midlanders, who inhabit mountainous and lower regions, respectively.
The Hyur are generally the FFXIV equivalent of the Humes in FFXI.
The Elezen
The Elezen are a now nomadic group, but they are also the oldest of Eorzea's races. The Elezen are known for their pride, and once fought the Hyur at length as their population grew and they moved into Elezen territory. The races now generally get along, although one group, the Duskwight Elezen, remain resentful of the Hyur's success.
The Elezen are generally the FFXIV equivalent of the Elvaan in FFXI.
The Lalafell
The Lalafell are a people most noted for their small stature. Once a small agrarian culture, the Lalafell population began to grow rapidly with the development of trade with other cultures. The Lalafell generally prefer to remain in warmer climates.
Lalafell are known for their high intelligence, as well as the agility granted by their small size.
The Lalafell are generally the FFXIV equivalent of the Tarutaru in FFXI.
The Roegadyn
The Roegadyn are a race of large, strong individuals. The Roegadyn have a maritime culture heavily focused on sea life, as well as on competition and honour.
Although most Roegadyn live in the areas of ports, one clan known as the Hellsguard have settled in a mountainous region, where they are said to have developed their magical abilities.
The Roegadyn are generally the FFXIV equivalent of the Galka in FFXI.
The Miqo'te
The Miqo'te are a race of cat-like hunters who entered the lands of Erozea over the sea during an ice age. They are generally a reculsive race, and tend to prefer to live amongst their own kind rather than keep in contact with the other races.
There are two main subgroups within the Miqo'te, who have diffent physical characteristics. The Seekers of the Sun and the Keepers of the Moon live their lives in the day and night, respectively.
The Miqo'te are generally the FFXIV equivalent of the Mithra in FFXI.
