Final Fantasy VI

Final Fantasy VI, which was originally released as Final Fantasy III for the North American Super NES, broke away from the previous titles in the series in a number of ways. It was the first Final Fantasy title not directed by Hironobu Sakaguchi, who created the series. The game boasts fourteen playable characters, which remains the most any main-line Final Fantasy series has ever allowed. FF6 also takes place in a much more advanced world than the traditional games in the series.

Final Fantasy VI is still hailed today as one of the best Final Fantasy titles ever, and remains a fan favorite among the "classic" (pre-PlayStation) games in the series.
