Guild Wars 2
Guild Wars 2 is the sequel to Guild Wars.
Like its predecessor, Guild Wars 2 will not feature a monthly fee. Instead, the game's fee will be entirely in the purchase price of the game and its expansions. The team behind the game has said that smaller expansions are likely this time around, rather than having several stand-alone campaigns as the original Guild Wars did.
This time, Guild Wars 2 will feature a fully-persistant world, relying less heavily on instances of areas. To accomodate this, Guild Wars 2 will divide its player base among servers in the way that most MMOs do, but will allow players to move freely from server to server as they please. (Other MMORPGs, such as World of Warcraft, charge for this.) Among the gameplay changes are new methods of character development and PvP battles. The game will also run on a new game engine being developed by ArenaNet.
The game's publishers have also said that they will continue to support the original Guild Wars long after Guild Wars 2 arrives, including seasonal events.
No release date has been announced, but the game's beta is expected to start Summer or Fall 2008.
