The Last Story

The Last Story is a fantasy RPG in development for the Nintendo Wii by Mistwalker, the company led by Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, along with Nintendo. Mistwalker is also behind the Blue Dragon series and Lost Odyssey.

The game will take place on Ruri Islands, the gateway to a large mountainous continent. The main character of the game is Elza, a mercenary who finds himself traveling with a mysterious woman and her white tiger companion. The gameplay will feature a real-time battle system that allows pausing to enter commands, and play as any party member.

The game was announced in April 2010 and is planned for release in Japan later that year. Fans and observers are quick to note that the game’s logo and name are both very reminiscent of the Final Fantasy brand.

The game’s theme song, was composed by Nobuo Uematsu and will be sung by Japanese singer Kanon, whose work has appeared on a number of anime series, as well as the television drama Brothers and Sisters.

The Last Story will also feature multiplayer, and promises approximately 30 hours of gameplay in the main story.

Hironobu Sakaguchi has said that this will be the most impressive RPG on the Nintendo Wii, and that he is giving it everything he’s got, working on The Last Story as if it were his last game.
