Oblivion: Dark Brotherhood Quest
This quest is a nice little spin, since your bonus doesn't depend on how you kill your mark, but instead on an optional extra stretch.
Your target is Adamus Phillida. He's a former officer of the Imperial Legion, and has retired. He's spending his retirment in Leyawiin, but is unfortunatley under heavy guard.
Ocheeva offers you one method of killing him: the Rose of Sithis. It's not neccessary to use it, but this single arrow will kill Adamus in one shot as long as he isn't wearing his armor.
If you hang arround the Leyawiin barracks, eventually Adamus and his guards will emerge. If you speak with his main bodyguard, he'll willingly tell you about Adamus' schedule — which includes a brief swim.
Hang around the nearby pond until about 3:00 pm, when Adamus will approach the pool, shed his armor and go for a swim. Fire the Rose of Sithis at him and he's out.
You can now return to Ocheeva to complete the contract, or go for the bonus. The bonus comes if you send a message to Adamus' successor by leaving the old man's severed finger (with his Imperial Legion ring) in his old desk. If you intend to fulfill this, approach the corpse and snatch the severed finger. (You'll probably also want to grab the keys that Adamus carries.
It's very difficult to complete this quest without obtaining a bounty when you kill Adamus Phillida. It helps if you're a member of the Thieves Guild, since you can escape the guards and have your bounty erased.
Head to the Imperial City Prison with the finger and enter the office two doors to your left. Open the desk (Average lock) and deposit the finger. Return to Ocheeva for the gold reward, plus extra gold if you completed the bonus.
Ocheeva will also promote you to the rank of Assassin. Speak with her again to continue on with Of Secret and Shadow.
