Radical Dreamers

Radical Dreamers is a text-based game for the Satellaview, an addon for the Super Famicom (see below). Radical Dreamers is a sequel to Chrono Trigger and a start-up for the Chrono Cross story. The game reveals some information and answers some questions from Trigger, following the story of Serge, Kid and Guile as they set off to steal a legendary item, the Frozen Flame from Yamaneko's (Lynx's) mansion. These are all characters from Chrono Cross. According to director Masato Kato, Chrono Cross is actually a remake of Radical Dreamers into a full game, more in the style of an updated Chrono Trigger sequel.

As for the text-based part… The entire game is text. Japanese text. Fun, eh? The text appears on the screen letting you know what's happening, and you choose from 3–5 options of what to do. The graphics are limited to backgrounds behind the text. There's some decent music too. The game can take up to 5 hours to complete. There are multiple endings too, like in Trigger and Cross.

Don't waste your time trying to find this game, though. If you can even get ahold of the Satellaview, it's worthless. There are a couple of very rare and barely compatible Radical Dreamers ROMs, but unless you are fluent in Japanese, they won't do you much good.
