Star Trek Online
Star Trek Online is an MMORPG set in the Star Trek universe. The game allows players to advance through the ranks of Starfleet, beginning at Starfleet Academy and advancing through to their own command. The game is said to include both player-versus-player (PvP) and player-versus-environment (PvE) gameplay.
The game will take place after the events in the television series and about twenty years after the events in Star Trek: Nemesis, around the start of the 25th Century. The developers of Star Trek Online chose to set the game further into the future of the Star Trek universe in order to allow for some technological developments — including Federation-controlled trans-warp conduits to allow for faster travel.
Star Trek Online was first announced in 2004 and is to be released for the Windows PC. The game was under development by Perpetual Entertainment until January 2008, when the license and non-code content for the game were moved to an unnamed development studio. Perpetual originally intended to release the game at in late 2008, but since the new developers must rewrite the game's code, a 2010 release date is more likely.
Since the January 2008 announcement, no real news has surfaced on Star Trek Online, leading many fans to suspect that the project had been scrapped. In March, however, the official site for the game was updated with a "Coming Soon" image, providing some hope that the project is ongoing.
