Star Wars: The Old Republic

A brief peace between the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire is coming to an end.

Star Wars: The Old Republic is an upcoming MMORPG based on the stories begun in the Knights of the Old Republic (KotOR) games. The Old Republic takes place 300 years after BioWare's original games, and 3500 years before the events of the Star Wars films.

Like the KotOR titles (and in fact all of Star Wars), The Old Republic will play on the moral differences between the Sith and Republic characters. Player choices will be a significant part of the game, and will have an impact on the available stories/quests for each player's character, as well as their interaction with NPCs.

Each of the two factions, Sith and Republic, will have different classes available. Each class will have unique storylines, and your actions, good or bad, will open and close the available stories to you. The overall story behind the game will be comprised of the different questlines, and the background events for the game. The game will take place on dozens of different planets.

The game is being developed by BioWare, the makers of the original Knights of the Old Republic title, as well as Mass Effect and Jade Empire. Bioware has said that the game's story, which has been in development by a writing team for over two years, already has more to it than all of BioWare's previous games combined.

The game was first announced on October 21, 2008, though rumours of its existence surfaced well before that. No release date has been announced. The game will be released for the PC, though BioWare is considering console versions as well.
